You are lucky to have one of his clocks in your family. I haven't been lucky enough to have even seen one of his clocks. I have only seen pictures on a website. A few years ago I saw an advertisement for an auction for one but I had missed the auction by a couple of weeks. I had heard of one that had been in a bank in Westmoreland County but I live on the west coast so I haven't traveled there yet.Quadraticmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12515143200999285343noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8183248362504303155.post-5832704858935220312024-03-20T21:18:22.873-07:002024-03-20T21:18:22.873-07:00My mother's family is from Scottdale PA and we...My mother's family is from Scottdale PA and we've had a Jacob Hugus Grandfather clock for decades. James ( my 5G Granduncle)married a lady named Janet and they had nine children. I have long wondered if this could be Janet Boarman but I do not know this for a fact. I researched that branch of the family for a dozen years and wrote what I learned over the years in about twenty different blog posts. That research took me to Kentucky libraries, Maryland Archives, and Salt Lake City Family History Library. I have purchased at least seven research books that were not available in my city library If you wanted to know who his parents were then you would have to research even more. There was no record of his parents in the documents I found and since he came to Maryland as a kid it is possible we will never find out. I appreciate your kind words about Sister Marie Yvonne.
I had many special times with her, and the most vivid ones seemed to be highlighted by music.
She played the organ at my wedding forty-nine years ago and even further back I remember washing the family car together while listening to fifties music.
She was a special big sister. It doesn't seem possible that she has been gone for over ten years. There have certainly been family stories about Cherokee ancestors. These stories have come down through numerous branches of the family. I spent some time, effort, and money trying to confirm these stories but I have not been able to verify either through a paper trail or DNA. I had a male Leggett descendant take the Y-DNA test and there was no hint of DNA from indigenous people. My wife took DNA tests from two different companies but no connection to Indigenous people. At this time I have put the attempt to verify these stories on the back burner.Quadraticmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12515143200999285343noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8183248362504303155.post-73798509774219269502019-06-22T15:41:06.550-07:002019-06-22T15:41:06.550-07:00You are correct. She was my piano teacher from the time she arrived back at FSHA in 1973 until I traded the keyboard for singing in 1982. I have very fond memories of her, and when she came to mind today, I recalled hearing that she had gone to be with God some years ago. So I Googled her and found this loving obituary, which brought tears to my eyes. I wish I had tried harder to get to know her as a person, and not just the disciplined nun to whom I had to report weekly in order to show my piano progress and try to learn more. But I still remember when, in 1981, she acquiesced to my request to learn Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" instead of the usual classical music I didn't yet fully appreciate. I was grateful for her understanding and willingness to help me enjoy the instrument a bit more. She was very special, and I wish I'd let her know it!Caniche_Noirhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17232559851439929277noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8183248362504303155.post-49820549060397283122016-11-14T18:56:36.488-08:002016-11-14T18:56:36.488-08:00Thanks for the additional information.
